Mediumship
What is mediumship all about?
Mediumship dates back to the late 1900's in America when the Fox Sisters encountered the first form of communication with the spirit world. Although the form of communication was through a series of "rappings", it was indeed a turning point. After these rappings it was found that many people were potential mediums or sensitives, and that it was possible for these people to unfold their mediumistic abilities. This development usually took place within circles, or séances which are basically groups of people sitting together to become aware, and guided by spirit communicators who joined them in their small groups.
In the early days the pace of life was much slower and there was none of today's technology offering numerous distractions. After the days work was done families would sit together around a warm fire, in the flow of an oil lamp and talk to each other or sing, or play a musical instrument. It can be seen how conducive to spirit communication such conditions would be and the spirit people would naturally take advantage of these conditions.
Forms of mediumship
There are two forms of mediumship and they are PHYSICAL and MENTAL.
Physical Mediumship
Includes such activities as levitation, direct voice, materialisation and transfiguration. Physical mediumship seems to be diminishing and is very rarely seen these days.
Mental Mediumship
Involves the use of the mediums mind and can be considered under two headings:
Perception
My mediumship clearly comes under the 'Perception' class where I become aware of a communicating spirit within my own mind first and then relay the information received to the recipient or sitter.
Control
In the control class the communicating spirit steps within the aura and controls the medium and thus speaks directly to the recipient or sitter.
Mental mediumship includes:
- Clairvoyance » The ability to see spirit clearly
- Clairaudience » The ability to hear spirit clearly
- Clairsentience » The ability to sense spirit
These three "C's" as we call them are separate phenomena but I find that I use all three. It is sometimes hard to distinguish which particular one being used because the information is flowing from the communicating spirit at a fast rate sometimes.
This is just an overview of the history and types of phenomena. If you want to look into this further contact me for a chat about your learning options.
